《社會發展的心理學》，室利·阿羅頻多，Sri Aurobindo撰，原為阿黎耶哲學雜誌中之論文，始於一九一六年八月，終於一九一八年七月。單行本一九五〇年紐約出版，改名《人類循環論》，The Human Cycle，凡二十四章，三百頁，附索引十二頁。二題名在華文皆頗生疏，以書之內容，乃論社會進化之事，故逕題曰《社會進化論》。

論撰於世界局勢之成敗利鈍多所豫見，然其時軸心國家及蘇俄尚未蹶起，故讀者宜約略回溯該時代思潮及世界事勢，然後於書中之理可更瞭然。第二次世界大戰結束及印度獨立，猶撰者所及見，凡諸後來變化與其學理相應者，皆經略加註明，見於原書每頁之末，譯出則附於每章之次。其中事義有非通俗所知者，更由譯者補註數事。

譯文脫稿于一九五四年，飄搖風雨，又值法屬海圻多事之秋，蓋庋置六年然後出版，殊非旦夕造次者。書原為神聖母親而譯，徇知感德，未嘗不覃思盡慮為之；倘竟有動於天下後世耶，必同此一慈光藹徹，景從神會，可以忘言。（譯者）

Laotzu was more than likely the first scholar to have a vision of spiritual reality, somewhere around the 6th century B.C. At that time, his visions were a source of ridicule, misunderstanding and ostracism. Included in this volume are the explanation of Tao, according to Laotzu; and a study of his Wu Wei. A short history of Laotzu can be found within as well.

From the autor: The present study on Lao Tse’s ‘Wu Wei’ should not be considered in any way as a translation, even free, of that philosopher’s work. I have simply tried to render the essence of his wisdom in all its purity: I have here and there given a direct translation of the truths enunciated by him, but most of this work is the development, in a form elaborated by me, of some principles to which he confined himself for formulation.
Lao Tse’s is a tiny book and extremely simple at that: the author’s thought is condensed in a few words taken in their pure primitive sense, sometimes a very different sense than the one assumed in other works, in the works of Confucius for example, but those few words are the Gospel. Lao Tse’s work is not a philosophical treatise; it simply exposes the truths to which Lao Tse was led by his philosophy: only the quintessence of that philosophy is there, not the development of his system.
This small work is wholly penetrated by that essence, but is not a translation of Lao Tse. In his book there is none of the comparisons drawn by me from the landscape, the sea and the clouds; nowhere has he spoken of Art, also he has not specially dealt with Love. In dealing with these subjects, I have expressed the ideas and feelings deducing instinctively from Lao Tse’s profound philosophy, for one who has been long penetrated by it. It may be then that my study contains much more of myself than I imagine, but in that case also, it will be the expression of the thoughts and feelings awakened in me by the words of Lao Tse.

The book relates to experiences of Sri Aurobindo right from Ailpore Jail till the Mother’s Darshan on 29th Feb-1960, the first anniversary of Supramental Manifestation. The workings of Sri Krishna’s consciousness in Sri Aurobindo which was clearly described by Sri Aurobindo in His Works. The Mother too was in contact with Sri Krishna and was having an intimate & special relation with him. Descent of Sri Krishna’s consciousness into physical on 24th Nov 1926 is a proof of Sri Krishna’s active and dynamic participation in Earth evolution through Integral-Yoga. The book covers only important experiences/realisations of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo and more so subtle things happening during their sadhana with the help of Sri Krishna. Adoration/Bhakti towards Sri Krishna by the people at large will surely be attracted to Integral yoga if teachings of Sri Krishna and Sri Aurobindo can be synthesized. This is an attempt in that direction.

C’è solo il Brahman, l’Uno senza secondo. Esistenza e non-esistenza sono le sue forme sebbene Esso sia di là dell’Esistenza e della Non-Esistenza. Eccetto Quello null’altro esiste. Tutto ciò che nei tre tempi è contenuto e tutto ciò che è oltre ad essi, invero è quell’unico Brahman. Tutto ciò che è nell’universo, piccolo o grande, nobile od insignificante, quello è Brahman, in realtà è Brahman. Ugualmente il mondo è Brahman. Esso è vero, non è falso.

Quello solo è l’Essere Trascendente, oltre tutti i tre tempi, oltre tutti i mondi, penetrante tutti i mondi, oltre l’Esistenza, oltre la Non-Esistenza, Tutto-Esistenza, Tutto-Coscienza, Tutto-Beatitudine, senza inizio né fine, il Divino eterno.

Il materiale presentato in questo libro è il risultato della trascrizione di una serie di dodici letture date da Rod Hemsell al Savitri Bhavan in Auroville, India. Con dettagli interessanti e intricati Rod dipinge con ampie pennellate un intenso ritratto storico dell’evoluzione del pensiero filosofico e del suo impatto sulla dottrina religiosa che si estende oltre duemila e quattrocento anni di storia. Il tema sottostante, naturalmente, è la lenta e costante evoluzione della coscienza umana che scorre in molti diversi rivoli di pensiero, sbocciando dalla fontana dell’esperienza umana mentre cresce nella conoscenza. This brief chronological selection from all that Sri Aurobindo said or wrote on India, her soul and her destiny, is by no means integral, but we trust it offers a sufficiently wide view of the lines of development Sri Aurobindo wished India to follow if she was to overcome the deep-rooted obstacles standing in the way of her rebirth.
